Car
Parking at Manchester Velodrome
With effect from August 2003, the City of Manchester Stadium
will become the home of Manchester City FC. The combined effect
of fans arriving to attend a home match, together with shoppers
arriving at the Asda Walmart Superstore, will inevitably mean
that there will be considerable congestion on the roads around
the Velodrome. The Velodrome's car parks will be in great
demand at these times and it is proposed that a parking fee
of £5 per car will be introduced for the five hour period
when a home match is taking place. This five hour period will
commence three hours prior to kick off.
The Velodrome has not previously
applied a parking fee for users of the Velodrome and this
practice will continue. However, to prevent any misuse, we
will need to implement the following procedures;
Due to the anticipated difficulty
of segregating football traffic from customers of the Velodrome,
we will have no choice but to apply the £5 fee to all vehicles
arriving on site. This will include track riders and any other
customer of the Velodrome.
Car Park 10 (formerly car park
D, by the Main Reception) will be reserved for Velodrome customers
and staff. Access to this car park will be restricted and
drivers will have to provide their details to the attendant
controlling the temporary barrier. At this stage, we do not
intend to ask Velodrome customers for details of everyone
attending a Velodrome activity and it should be sufficient
to state the session they are attending. However, if there
is evidence of significant abuse (e.g. more cars in car park
10 than we have customers in the building), we may have to
start asking clubs/organisations to supply the vehicle details
or names of people attending their session.
On arrival at the Main Reception,
a refund of the £5 parking fee will be given providing the
person is legitimately taking part in an activity at the Velodrome
at that time and presents a valid parking ticket, i.e. issued
on the day. Failure to do so will mean that the fee will not
be refunded.
The above arrangements are intended
to safeguard the interests of our customers and to enable
them to continue to enjoy the facilities. If you have any
queries or concerns, please ask to speak to Jarl Walsh, General
Manager, or, in his absence, a Duty Manager.
